Herbert, the managing partner at MRB Attorneys, holds an LLB from the National University of Rwanda, an LLM in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa from the Centre for Human Rights – University of Pretoria, an LLM in Business Law from the University of Rwanda and a Certificate in International Commercial Arbitration from the London Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Before joining MRB, he worked extensively in commercial and corporate transaction advisory roles. This included legal research, negotiations, legal audits, due diligence, and establishing securities for banks and financial institutions in Rwanda.
Herbert has a wealth of experience in negotiating international transactions and has represented the Rwandan Government in negotiations regarding the harmonization of East Africa Community Commercial laws. In 2013, the East African Law Society (EALS) recognized him as the EALS Young Lawyer of the Year, therefore recognizing all his dedication and commitment to excellence.
Actively involved in corporate and transactional assignments, Herbert has led and concluded high-profile negotiations for Joint Ventures for both local and international corporate bodies. He is experienced in drafting and reviewing technical legal documents, as well as legislative drafting.
He has a perfect command of commercial companies and partnerships, as well as non-governmental organizations and other not-for-profit entities, their creation, management and liquidation, where applicable.
Additionally, Herbert has contributed to national, regional, and international human rights reporting mechanisms. He has also served as a Law instructor at both the National University of Rwanda (NUR) and the Institute of Lay Adventists of Kigali (INILAK). As a member of the Rwanda Bar Association, the East African Law Society (EALS), and the Pan African Lawyers Union, Herbert actively participates in professional legal organizations.
